Customer Question

CUSTOMER QUESTION:
It's been my dream before high school to at least be in one pageant, I always watch pageant shows like toddlers in tiaras and I’m always super jealous! I'm 14 right now and I’ve never been in any sort of pageants or done any modeling. I’ve always told my mom that I wanted to but we’ve never had enough money, we still don’t but I’m hoping to get a job soon and I was wondering if people could start at 14 years old and how they should start off. I searched online where to buy pageant dresses in Minnesota (since I live here) and it recommended you guys so I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I really want to be a pageant girl and at least get one crown! I’m 5’8”, I still have braces right now but I’m getting them off soon, I have brown eyes, an oval shape face, I have medium length hair, but I can’t walk in heels, no matter how much I practice I always trip, do you have to know how to? Ok, so this is probably too many questions but just please answer as fast as you can!

GLITZ! HELP:
Hi (Name has been removed for privacy) -
I will try to help you the best I can! We are not able to hire anyone younger than 16. Other companies may have a younger hiring age. At the very least, I would start babysitting or doing yard work to earn (AND SAVE!) money. Pageants are very expensive so the sooner you are able to earn some money the better!

I would also recommend beginning volunteer work immediately. For most pageants, you will need to talk about a cause, or a charity you volunteer for. There are a lot of opportunities to volunteer in your community. Animal shelters, soup kitchens, nursing homes and hospitals are a great way to get involved with your community.

There are a lot of videos on youtube that can help you learn how to walk in heels. It is not a requirement in most pageants to be able to walk in heels; however, learning how to walk in heels will teach you how to be graceful and confident which are both fantastic qualities to exhibit while you are on stage.

A great pageant to start off with is National America Miss. Here is there website:
http://www.namiss.com/. Your town also probably has local pageants. If there are any summer festivals going on, a lot of times there will be a pageant during that time.
As far as formal wear goes, you can find a lot of great dresses on our sale rack. Our sale goes all summer and hopefully throughout fall until we run out of dresses! Figure out a budget for how much you are able to spend on a gown (don't forget you will most likely need to purchase accessories and pay for alterations as well) and be sure to let your consultant know when you begin shopping how much you are able to spend. DO NOT try on dresses over your budget- if you fall in love but can't afford a gown you will have a harder time finding something you like in your price range.

Finally, add us on facebook! When we do runway shows or have modeling opportunities we will post it on our facebook. Modeling jobs are a great opportunity to gain some stage experience but be sure to be careful what jobs you take and always bring a friend along for safety!

Best of luck to you,

General Manager Annessa
